Even as Christians, confidence is something really easy to misunderstand. Sometimes we can be overly confident in ourselves to the point of pride, but other times we can lack confidence to the point that we don’t acknowledge the gifts The Holy Spirit has given us.
We are dependent upon God. There is not a single thing we can do without the Lord. We couldn’t even breathe without Him. He gives us free will to make choices, many times the choices He would not like us to make, but that doesn’t change His love for us. Anything good I do successfully is because of God’s gifts and power, not because I’m this awesome person. I am super flawed.
This doesn’t mean we should rip ourselves up as if we are terrible people. “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made…” (Psalm 139:14 NIV). If we are fearfully and wonderfully made, then why would we act like we are awful people? God doesn’t make mistakes! We are sinners and we are flawed but Jesus’ blood washes us clean! We need to be confident in who God made us to be, who The Holy Spirit is fashioning us to become! We don’t need to throw ourselves in the gutter, we are Children of God!
We need to watch out that we don’t become prideful or conceited. Focus on God and be confident in Him, not yourselves, but also being careful not to lose confidence in who God made you to be. God did not make a mistake, and He is the source of true confidence.
You are beautiful, you are loved, and you are treasured by God!
